Helping to raise quail for release
Join our conservation effort to help restore the Northern bobwhite quail to Long Island. We need dedicated volunteers who will help care for our baby and juvenile quail as they grow and prepare for a natural life.
You’ll provide food & water, clean dishes, and keep pens tidy. You’ll also observe the quail, looking for injuries, Illness, bullying, anything out of the ordinary. Check the pen for signs of damage from predators, ensure heating bulbs are working, and adjust temperature as needed.
Volunteers sign up for one day per week for a roughly 30-60 minute shift. Morning shift any time between 7:30 and 10:00, your choice. And evening shift any time between 3:00 and 6:00, your choice. May 15 – July 30. You’ll watch as the quail change from week to week, and then join us for their release in August!
Three locations:
- Town of Brookhaven Manorville Compost Facility
- Clark Botanical Garden Albertson, NY
- Caleb Smith State Park, Smithtown, NY
