Welcome Our New Education Director at CEED!

Nature Center, Spring Farm & Nature Experience

Please join us in welcoming Dana Franz to CEED as our part-time Education Director and Spring and Summer Farm and Nature Experience Director. Dana is a Long Island native and a Stony Brook University graduate with a BA in Environmental Humanities, a unique major that merges science with the social aspects of environmentalism. Growing up, Dana’s love of nature was inspired by TV naturalist Bindi Irwin, and Dana’s personal mission is to teach children about animals and nature the way Bindi does. Dana has interned with the Long Island Aquarium, volunteered with Save the Animals Rescue, and taught at Quogue Wildlife Refuge in the summer for three years.

We’re thrilled to have her energy and passion on our staff. Here’s what she said about joining CEED:

“I love the potential of CEED. It’s still a new organization, and has done so much already. It’s exciting to join the team! I don’t think kids get enough education about the natural world in school, so it means a lot to me to be part of helping them learn about nature.

“I am really enjoying digging into the Wave Makers program. I have so many ideas for exciting things to with the wave maker kids. And our Spring Farm and Nature Experience starts next week, and I can’t wait. It’s really an amazing opportunity for kids to learn about both wild nature and farm nature, and compare them.

“I’m also working with Sally and Eric to create new programs for adults this spring and summer, too, so stay tuned!”
