Sculpture on the Trail … an Art & Nature Exhibition

One of the founding principles of CEED is that art and nature go together.  So we were honored and excited to partner with Inspiration Plus to hold our first Art & Nature Exhibition:  SCULPTURE on the TRAIL on Saturday, August 20th, 2022 at the Washington Lodge and on our North Loop Trail.

Seventeen international artists, listed below, had their sculptures installed on a one-half-mile trail through Suffolk County forest preserve north of the Lodge. The theme of the exhibition was encapsulated in the letter Y, meant to evoke organic branching in nature, in tandem with the eternal questions we ask ourselves, “why.”

Employing a wide range of materials, with some incorporating performance, the sculptors’ work was distributed along the twists and turns of the shaded trail, in and amongst the animals and trees. There was a wonderful interactive component as well, where the public was invited to participate in attaching thoughts, art, or words to artist Dan Welden’s “Y” shaped sculpture on opening day.

Local poets also performed at the event, some inspired by the works of art, others by what moves them in the natural world.

SCULPTURE on the TRAIL was open to the public free of charge and the sculptures remained on view at CEED through September 18, 2022.
