After months of hard work, these little Northern Bobwhite Quail are ready to take on their task of filling the empty niche of organisms that can eat ticks!   In April, classes around Long Island were hard at work being the perfect quail parents incubating Northern Bobwhite Quail eggs.  Once their little chicks were ready to fly, Ranger Eric and his trusty volunteers swooped in and raised the quail in pens across Long Island. This week and next week are the moments we have been waiting for… the young quail are ready to live on their own in their natural environment.  There is plenty of food for them to survive in Long Island’s ecosystems, and fortunately one food choice happens to be ticks!  Join us to release the quail and help cheer these crusaders in our fight to reduce the tick population on Long Island!  Every small effort counts!

Upcoming days and locations:

  • July 16th at Brookhaven State Park at 10:00 a.m.,
