Learn to Make Indigo Dye – Leave with a Beautiful Scarf

Community Programs, Nature Center

Experience the magic of indigo dye firsthand in a three-hour workshop using freshly harvested Japanese Indigo. We will be dyeing silk scarves with nothing but fresh leaves and a sprinkle of salt. The dye is permanent without any further processing, and you’ll leave the workshop with your own handmade blue indigo silk scarf.

Then we’ll take the leftover leaves and mash them into a small jar with a wetted handkerchief to take home. The magic will continue to happen in that jar!

At home, you can also root the stems from which you stripped the leaves. Soon you will have more indigo plants to play with.

We will also explore leaf stamping and coloring with rolled up leaves. All supplies are provided, including the silk scarves. Workshop fee is $75.
