Two Weeks Till Leadership Session One!

Two Weeks Till Leadership Session One!

There are less than two weeks left to register your teens for CEED’s Leadership and Conservation Program first session this summer, which begins July 11. We have interesting projects lined up for young people who want to practice conserving the earth, including building a bat house to help our native bats, and using phone apps to identify and remove invasive plants. Participants will also gain leadership skills by helping younger children learn about conservation.

There is a three-week program and a two-week program. Register today to make sure you can fit your family’s summer schedule.

Summer Leadership Growth for Teens

Summer Leadership Growth for Teens

Summer Leadership Growth for Teens

People often talk about the “summer slide,” when students can slip backwards in their academic progress in the months outside of school.  But it’s not inevitable.  And CEED has designed a special program that takes advantage of summer to build leadership and conservation skills in teen-age young people. CEED’s Leadership and Conservation program leads to growth in key skills that help your teen, and help the world by fostering the conservation leaders of tomorrow. Teens get real-life practice in how to work in a group, how to direct others, and how to teach others.

They have great fun and make new friends while doing it!

And as a side benefit, Leadership and Conservation Program looks great on a college application.

There is a three week session and a two week session, but registration is limited.  Register below.

Summer Night Sky and Owl Prowl

Summer Night Sky and Owl Prowl

Summer Night Sky and Owl Prowl

Join Vanderbilt Planetarium and CEED for a night to remember …

Our popular combination IS BACK!! A little after sunset on July 12th, we’ll head out on our trails for an owl prowl, keeping our eyes out for any of our nighttime creatures, including flying squirrels, foxes, opossums, and of course, owls!

After the hike, enjoy incredible views of the nighttime sky through a powerful telescope! Our friends and astronomy educators from the Vanderbilt Museum’s Reichert Planetarium will be giving a tour of the evening’s celestial highlights, including the Moon, beautiful double stars, and deep-sky objects like globular clusters, gaseous nebulae, and galaxies. We encourage you to bring your own telescopes, binoculars, and cameras to practice long-exposure photography.

Don’t worry if the sky is not clear, the Vanderbilt team is always prepared and ready to share interesting astronomy topics. And put it on your calendar that we have another Night Sky and Owl Prowl scheduled for October 21st.

When: Tuesday, July 12, 2022
Time: 8:00 p.m.
Where: Washington Lodge, 287 South Country Road, Brookhaven NY
How Much: $20 per adult, $10 for seniors and veterans, $10 per child ages 8-16, children 7 and under are free!

*We are now officially a Blue Star Museum!  If you are active in the military, bring your military I.D and you and your family are free! Please register and select military.  Please note this is only for people in the military and immediate family members.

Announcing: CEED Summer Experience for Kindergarteners!

Announcing: CEED Summer Experience for Kindergarteners!

Announcing: CEED Summer Experience for Kindergarteners!

At the request of parents looking for a high-quality and fun experience for children who will be going into kindergarten next fall, CEED is announcing that our Summer Nature Experience program is now open to younger children.

For the kindergarteners, we’ve decreased the child-to-adult ratio to five to one, but aside from that, the program is just like for the older kids.  Outdoor fun, experiencing nature, making new friends.  They’ll come home a little tired, but overflowing with stories about the creatures and plants they saw and the nature activities they did.

If you have any questions, email us at info@ceedli.org. Or register today. Half-day and full day.  Registration is limited.

A Perfect Day for a Festival at CEED!

A Perfect Day for a Festival at CEED!

A Perfect Day for a Festival at CEED!

We asked the National Weather Service for a perfect day tomorrow for our Summer Solstice Festival, and our order has come through.  It’s supposed to be bright and mostly sunny and 73 degrees.  You could hardly ask for a better day to be outside, enjoying a festival with family and friends.

So drop by tomorrow from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  There will be native music and dancing, and activities for all ages.  Even a great food truck, Lunchbox!

And a perfect day to hike the trails at CEED.  See you tomorrow!

(Actually, we didn’t order the weather.  But still, it looks like it’s going to be perfect!)
